Embracing the Digital First Sales Reality in 2020 – CPSA / Shane Gibson

This month I was invited by the Canadian Professional Sales Association to discuss 2020 sales tech trends and present my online sales keynote on Embracing the Digital First Sales Reality.

We have been plunged head first into a new virtual sales reality. This quote from Tobi Lutke the CEO of Shopify sums it up:

“[the present crisis] is accelerating the growth of e-commerce, bringing changes that were expected in 2030 to today’s market.”

Our gradual shift from “old-school sales” to digital first sales (work-from-home and/or remote sales teams) suddenly became instant. In the keynote I identified 12 major trends and shifts we need to prepare for today in order to become competitive digital sales organizations. Being competitive means embracing best practices in social selling, remote video presentations, and dealing with challenges such as Zoom fatigue and the loss of face-to-face selling.

These 2020 digital sales shifts and trends are:

  1. Client engagement is now primarily digital
  2. You don’t have face to face IRL (in-real-life) as a differentiator
  3. More screen time for business and personal (which is good and bad)
  4. Instant meetings (are a huge opportunity and expectation)
  5. Instant messaging
  6. Frequent communications
  7. Mobile 1st (Smartphone are how most execs see your content)
  8. Remote is here to stay
  9. Everyone is a media company
  10. Everyone is a tech company
  11. Sentiment shifts are rapid
  12. Digital fatigue and addiction are on the rise

In the webinar I dig into each of these topics and how sales organizations can capitalize on them in this digital first sales reality. Here’s the CPSA webinar:
